Thoughts on Black Friday
It’s Black Friday … go buy some shit; it’s the American way. If I’m not there in ten minutes, start without me …
Consumer buying is one of many symptoms, along with an increasing yield to peer pressure, aligning with fads, and general herd mentality, among other symptomatic behavior that has grown over the last several decades as a result of a societal shift in the mind-world relation from internalism to externalism.
In short, as one’s sense of being becomes less dependent or centered on an internal stable base of self worth with a relatively slow evolution as affected with external factors only after filtration through a somewhat fixed inner world view and becomes more, if not wholly, dependent on rapidly shifting external factors, one’s sense of self-worth or completeness is rapidly changing along with the continual shift in modern society’s focus on topical importance given to things, ideas, and values which, by their temporary nature, have no real value.
Thus we “consume endlessly, to get that little bit of temporary satisfaction that, for a little while makes us feel better inside”.
Skinartistry is back online!
Well, it’s official.
With a new site Skinartistry2 and a new look, Skinartistry is back.
SA2 is a growing community of artists, skinners, coders, programmers and just plain folks who really, really like customizing their desktops! SkinArtistry2 is the reincarnation of Skinartistry, a site devoted to skinning and learning how to skin developed by Bones 2112. Bones may have retired from running the site, but the spirit of community he inspired in all of us remains!
What sets us apart is that we provide a community that not only provides top quality skins, wallpapers and the like, but also excels in mentoring in a constructive, positive manner. Mentoring at SA2 is not just via the forums, but also through our workshop where all skinners, beginners and experienced alike, can upload their work for testing, help and smoothing out the rough spots as well as encouraging learning by doing through participation in Community Projects.
Back to Softball!
The Fall softball season starts up in about four weeks and, after missing a couple of rounds due to complications with Menieres Disease, I’m ready to play once again.
I’ve been asked to coach the team this year and am looking forward to the season. We are going to try to play six and six; it’s CoRec, meaning ten players play the field but all twelve can bat. We still need to pick up four more girls but we have some good prospects.
First practice next Tuesday!
Preseason Starting for the Cowboys!
The Cowboys Week 1 preseason matchup against the Chargers will be a homecoming of sorts for both sides. Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips and defensive coordinator Brian Stewart return to San Diego for the first time since coaching there from 2004 to 2006.
On the other side, former Cowboys offensive coordinator Norv Turner will face his old team for the 14th time as a head coach. The Cowboys are 9-5 against teams coached by Turner.
I’m hoping to get a look at some of the new players and also to see how the team performs on the field after last season’s letdown.
EDIT –
Well that didn’t go so well. The first team looked pretty good but the backups and special teams leave a lot to be desired. But there’s still time to fine tune things before the regular season starts.
